How to use the word finder

Enter up to 20 letters in the box. Word Kettle lists every word in its dictionary that you can spell with those letters, grouped by length, with the longest words first. Each letter can be used only as many times as you typed it, so TRAINS finds strain and train, but not tartan.

A question mark stands for a blank tile that can be any letter. Letters filled in by a blank are underlined in the results, so you can see at a glance which tile the blank has to become.

Narrow it down with filters

Open Filters to keep only the words you need:

• Starts with and Ends with fix the beginning or end of the word.
• Contains keeps words with those letters next to each other, such as ing.
• Exclude letters removes any word that uses a letter you have ruled out.
• Letter at position puts a known letter in a known spot, like E in position 2.
• Word length shows only words of one length.

Filters also work with no letters at all. Leave the letters box empty and the filters search the whole word list, which is handy for crossword clues and five-letter guessing games.

Which words are included?

Word Kettle uses ENABLE, a public-domain list of about 173,000 English words that has long been used by word game players and programmers. It works for popular word games, but no single list matches every game's official dictionary, so a few words may be accepted in one game and not in another.

Slurs and strong profanity are left out of the results. See how we filter words.
